How many ozs of water can a 10 month old have in additon to formula and food. He does not take any juice but loves water. I did not want to give him too much, or more than the daily rec value for a 20 lbs boy.

Neither of my kids drank juice, even when we offered it, and they love water. Go figure.

Especially when it's hot or they've been active, we let them have it on demand. We give milk with meals and snacks, and water in between.

Water is NOT "empty calories." Water has NO calories. It can fill up his tummy for a while, though, making him less hungry for other things. But if he's 10 months old and 20 pounds, he isn't a poor eater obviously! A few ounces of water a couple of times a day are fine.

Definitely dont give your son juice. It's just empty calories with no nutritional value. Plus, he will become accustomed to the sweet taste and prefer sugary foods. Not good.

As far as the water is concerned, any child under 1 year old really doesnt need water. He can have as much formula as he wants. If you feel strongly about giving him water, then give him a sippy cup with water in it only during meals. Otherwise, give him water.

I would give him as much as he is supposed to eat, and if he still wants to have water, give him one fourth the ounces of water as how much he is supposed to eat. Like if he drinks 8 oz bottles, let him have 2 oz water. But definitely keep the habit going! My son never had water between meals and he still won't drink any (almost two)! I always have to mix it with something! It's a good habit to have.

if he's eating food well, and drinks at least 24 oz of milk a day, then let him have up to 4 bottles or sippy cups of water a day, 3 oz at a time. But make sure he is getting his 24 oz milk every day, and is eating fruits since he isn't drinking juice. It's great that he likes water, many babies refuse water, preffering sweet juice instead.
Be careful what kind of water you offer......

I gave my son water, as much as he wanted, which was usually 6-8 oz,especially in the summer when he was playing outside and getting hot. However, after that I heard that u aren't supposed to give children water until they are 1 so my advice would be to ask your dr.

I wouldn't give him more than 4oz a day, because water is just empty calories, and he needs to not fill up on it as it could take away from his formula/food intake.
