In roughly 4months time i will be a qualified nursery nurse, the only problem is that I done feel it is the job for me. I currently work behind the bar in 2 very different pubs and i love them both. i have done bar work since i was 17 and always loved it. my boyfriend and all of his family also work in pubs and always have done. Would it be worth doing what i really want to do or just go along with my qualification?

Work for six months or so after qualifying to 'consolidate' your experience. Working as a qualified nursery nurse may feel very diferent to working as a student so you will be able to be sure of what you want. You will also find that if you leave nursery nursing in rder to do bar work but then decide to return it is easier to get a job if you already have some experience (a fall back if you like). What is it about bar work that you love and feel that you don't get out of nursery nursing? Thinking about that may help you make your decision.

As you only have 4 months to go to be a qualified nursery nurse stick with it for the next 4 months. Once you have a qualification nobody can take it away from you. Then if you want to do bar work full time - that's fine- it's your choice. Don't worry about the smoking ban as another answer mentioned- that won't affect the job as a bar worker. You may find that you have a different customer base but pubs will always need people to work in them . If you decide later that you want to work with kids you will still have the qualification to fall back on. Good luck.

Not sure, but I'm guessing your in a lovely town across the Atlantic since you are referring to the bars as pubs. Either way, I say do what you love. If you enjoy both (but maybe the pub work more) why not do both? In the US, nurses are in demand and there are nursing pools where you are called in for weekends or to fill in for sick or vacationing nurses. Pick one as part-time and one as full-time, or do both part-time. The only thing that may be an issue is benefits if you are part-time on both jobs. However, if you are in the UK, your health benefits might be thru the govt and not your employer anyway. Try doing both for a while and see how it works out. Good luck!

Give up one pub job and find a part time nursery nurse job to see if you like it. You don't know yet if it's the job for you since you haven't worked it.

Don't burn any bridges, if you don't like it you may be able to get your other job back. That way you will never doubt your decision.

Good luck!

Check it out, see which job pays more or the one that will set ya up for better opportunities in the future, and go with that one. I'd think that the answers to both questions would be the nurse, but that's just my opinion. I think it makes sense!!

do what suits you best, if that's bar work go for it and you will always have the qualification to fall back on if you so wish to.

one thing i would think about, the smoking ban coming in soon, people wont visit pubs as much as they wont be able to smoke so people will lose their kobs because the pubs wont have the revenue any more. id stick with the nursery job.
