The Libertarian party is favored by the rich for a few primary reasons. First of all, Libertarians believe that success can be attainable by anyone with enough hard work, and the rich see themselves as proof. The poor are disinclined to agree with this fundamental basis of Libertarianism because they either have worked hard without becoming wealthy and/or are unwilling to consider that their suffering is indeed a result of not working hard enough. Second, policies that Libertarians favor tend to emphasize less taxation and fewer social safety nets, which is notable for removing costs to the wealthy. This material benefit to the Libertarian philosophy would be reason enough for rich people to want to join. Meanwhile, the poor are unwilling to give up their own economic security, which relies upon these safety nets. As a somewhat distant third, Libertarians believe that material, economic success is sufficient for happiness. The wealthy want to be happy and if they believe that money = happiness then maybe it will be true. The poor disagree, citing that they can be happy without money and that the rich are indeed unhappy with it.

The Libertarian Party (as well as libertarian philosophy) is focused on individual liberty. That is, that rights are sourced within the sovereign individual. In this context, individual wealth has nothing to do with libertarianism. It is more a desire to create a cultural environment where each individual has as much control over the direction of their lives as is possible without initiating harm to anyone else.

For some this can result in amassing wealth while others may find fulfillment in doing things for others, or in artistic achievement, or living a more simple life style.

No.

Have you looked at their web site?

I just joined the LP 2 weeks ago. I even went to town hall and made it official after signing the voter registration form.

There is little damned difference between Republicans and Democrats. One borrows and spends, and the other taxes and spends. Both want more power and put further limits freedom. Neither party lately seems to be interested in protecting the borders or doing what is right for the American people. Both parties are working feverishly towards a North American Union and replacing essentially worthless Dollar with the Amero or some whacked-out unit of currency with no value.

Do your own research.

Wake up, with the likes of the Koch brothers backing, it promotes no taxation on corporate america, the rich, no regulation for environmental harm, making all land privately owned and open for extraction by the wealthy, no minimum wages, no medical or social security, or mandatory schooling...on and on. And poor uneducated people will only have the option to be slaves to the rich. Liberty for the rich and powerful!

NO.The Libertarian part is a party that wants all Americans to do well. The reps and Dems do their best to keep them a third party. If the Libertarians actually won we would be so much better of.It may be hopeless though the best thing is to keep their values and join the Republicans they could actually do good there.
