Really a 10 gallon is a bit small for a full grown female swordtail, but you could get by with 2 swords in there if there isn't much else in the tank.

I would not put any swordtails in there. They get pretty big at 5-6 inches, and will have no room to swim in a 10 gallon. Platys are very similar, you could put 3-5 in a 10 gallon.

Alot of fish stores say 1 inch of fish per gallon of water to keep the water quality at its highest. This prevents overcrowding which leads to disease. Si if you have a 10 gallon tank thats 10 inches in fish-hope it helps

Probably only two or three, as they are from areas where they can swim around a lot. Be careful, though, because they breed often.
