Solve a.... (5a/2) - 12 = (a/3) +1

First: eliminate fractions - multiply the denominators with each term.

(2)(3)(5a/2)-(2)(3)(12)=(2)(3)(a/3)+(2)(3)(1)

*Cross cancel "like" terms & combine the remaining terms.

(3)(5a) - (2)(3)(12) = (2)(a) + (2)(3)(1)

15a - 72 = 2a + 6

Sec: combine coefficients with the "a" variable on one side (left) - subtract 2a from both sides (when you move a term to the opposite side, always use the opposite sign).

15a - 2a - 72 = 2a - 2a + 6

15a - 2a - 72 = 6

13a - 72 = 6

*Add 72 with both sides.

13a - 72 + 72 = 6 + 72

13a = 6 + 72

13a = 78

Third: isolate "a" on one side - divide both terms by 13.

13a/13 = 78/13

a = 78/13

a = 6

__5a__ = __a__
2 - 12 3+1

__5a__ = __a__
10 4

so wht u talking about crossfactors? butterfly?

5 x 4 = 20a
10 x a= 10a

then combine like terms and then u just add 20a + 10a = 30a
