I know this is not true for everyone but the ones that I have met have this view but some meat eaters are the same. I am a little confused about this view.

You ask a good question. I am a pro-life activist who is also very concerned about animal welfare. I hate all cruelty. All living beings deserve compassion and protection, particularly those who cannot defend themselves and cannot speak for themselves.

It is a blatant lie for anyone to say that a fetus (Latin for "little one") is not alive or human. If they really believe this, they need to go back to high school and take a basic biology course. From the moment of conception, we are unique, living, human beings:

By the time abortions are committed, there is no "cluster of cells." People, if you're going to defend the slaughter of innocent human beings, at least get your facts straight. By the time most women know they are pregnant (3 weeks after conception), their baby's heart is already beating. Virtually no surgical abortions are committed before 6-7 weeks, by which point the baby has recordable brain waves and tiny fingers. The average age of an aborted baby in America is 10 weeks. At this point, the child is fully formed, with all her organs functioning. She can suck her thumb and is moving in the womb. If her palm is pricked, she will open her mouth and pull her hand away. If she looks like a baby and acts like a baby--she is a baby! It's not complicated.

It is also a lie to say that the baby is always "unaware." An ultrasound video of a first trimester abortion shows the baby desperately trying to escape the suction instrument, as her mouth opens wide and her heartbeat doubles (see the video at http://silentscream.org/video1.htm , part 3).

Many people were converted to vegetarianism after learning about the suffering of animals on factory farms and seeing videos of the cruel treatment they experience. People should be open-minded enough to truly learn what abortion entails as well. There is nothing more cruel than tearing apart an innocent human being piece by piece:

You mean why do most vegetarians agree with a woman's right to choose whether or not to continue with a pregnancy? It is not just vegetarians, the majority of meat eaters agree with a woman's right to choose as well.

While there are some people who are vegetarian for religious reasons, most vegetarians in the western world have their own reasons for not eating meat and have come to the decision after careful thought. It is their decision, no-one else's. Vegetarians need tolerance and understanding from non-vegetarians and so are often more tolerant and understanding themselves. They might not like the idea of abortion but they know they have no right to tell a woman what she must do with her body.

It is about time that tolerance and understanding became the norm. We would have a much better world in which to live. Unfortunately, bigotry, hatred and xenophobia seem to be the standard and these are exemplified by so many questions in Y!A.

Animals who are going to be eaten are usually mistreated and slaughtered in an inhumane way.
However, a fetus right after conception can't feel or think. They don't qualify as a living thing. I mean, technically 'life begins at conception' but it's just a cluster of cells.
But I'm only pro early abortions. Late term abortions are very wrong.

there are obviously different reasons why people choose to be vegetarians. many do it because of animal rights or simply because the idea of eating another animal is disturbing. as far as abortion...the idea of killing a life is obviously one that many people dont agree on, but the fight for PRO CHOICE is to give WOMEN the right to CHOOSE what to do with her body. i dont think abortion is the best answer, but i think women are allowed to choose what to do with their bodies no matter what you, i, or anyone else thinks is correct. i dont go around telling ANYONE what to do with their lives, so how dare the government and everyone else in the world that does not know me choose for me what i must do with my life. obviously, the two have nothing to do with each other. they are two totally different ball games.

I guess human beings are not as important as their animal friends. To them, more babies being born means more individuals who will grow up to eat meat.

Amen! I don't understand valuing an animal's life over a human's. That doesn't mean that I want animals to be abused, but they do not have the same value as humans.

A bucket of torn apart murdered babies isn't as cute as say, a lamb going to slaughter?
