Patterson's books are somewhat of a sequal with Alex Cross in most of them, there are also a couple of books that sort of go together in their own little sequal. I want to know in what order to read them.

Well, he's definitely written the Maximum Ride series (which you do have to read in order). There are also a bunch of other books with his name on them, claiming that he co-wrote them, but it's possible that he had nothing to do with writing those whatsoever and just agreed to have his name on the cover - often much bigger than the name of both the 'co-author' and the title.
