I am 26 weeks and my mom has just decided she is going to buy a thing of diapers every week until baby is here..

I am wondering, how many newborn diapers should we get and how many of the next size up. Can you exchange them? Thanks!

If grandma is wanting to put the money aside for diapers each week, why not just have here get a gift card at your favorite place to shop, or where you will be purchasing diapers in the future, buy one bag of newborns and one bag of size 1 and then start appling these amounts to a gift card for you to have on a gift card to pick up the diapers as you go.
Just a suggestion, it would save you time in the long run have having to mess with returns, store credits and then standing in line to get the diapers.
Blessings!

My son couldnt wear newborn diapers when he was born, he went straight to sz 1. However he went through about 250 in the first month. 8 diapers a day is normal, sometimes ten!

But you should wait until he gets here to buy diapers for him. I would say put the money away until then. Most hospitals have both ones and newborn size there for u to use during the hospital stay. That way, if he does wear newborn, you can go have someone buy some before u go home. We actually werent able to use any of the newborn diapers given to us as gifts, and we couldnt take them back because we didnt know where they came from! And most stores have new return policies...

So, I would say buy about 250 size one diapers, then wait to see if baby can wear newborn or size one when he gets here.

Believe it or not, my son was wearing twos after the first month, it really just depends on the baby, he was a 9lb baby, so you cant really determine for sure. At ten and a half months, he is in sz 4.

In addition, I tried multiple brands before finding the right fit for him. Baby could be allergic, the diapers may not fit properly, etc. So it is definitely a trial and error situation. So, if you do invest in buying diapers, make sure u wait until he gets here!

I hope this helps.

well I would say on average when a baby is born --3 months the baby goes thru about 8 diapers a day on average ---40 a week

then 3-8 about 10 a day on average
I would get about 100 size one diapers that would last the baby for about 2 weeks and by then most babies exceed by that time or can go to size 2 they can fit into them!

BABIES GROW OUT OF SIZE 2 REELY FAST within 2 months!!! keep this in mind

but buy the most in size 3!! my son has been in size 3 since hes been ooo id say around 4 months... and hes going on 9months at the end of this month... so id prolly buy like lets see id say an average 4-8 months would be 60 diapers a week so 60x16 average 960---then after that Im really not sure cuz my son is 8 months so.. Im not really sure what to expect after this lol

hope that helped in some way !!

I would only get one or two bags of newborn diapers. That's all my daughter used. I would say about a dozen bags of size 1's. You can exchange them. We had to exchange a few bags of newborn size. I would recommend that your mom maybe put the money up and buy the diapers after the baby is born. Every baby is different and could need a lot of newborn diapers, or need none at all, or be almost too big for size 1's.

Have you had your ultrasound yet? It the baby small, normal or big in comparison to where it should be? In any case, I would NOT buy more than 50-100 newborn diapers. They are very small. My son used newborn at the hospital and for the first week, but after that we just moved him up to the small sizes. No baby really stays in them that long. It's a much safer bet to buy the larger diapers and buy the newborn ones if you really need them when your baby comes.

On average you will use 6-8 diapers per day in the first few weeks. I had about 450 diapers in the newborn size & used them all, then went into the next size up. Good luck.
Note: It can also depend on the size of your baby too when it's born. I was able to exchange some diapers I was give by my mother-in-law (she accidently bought the wrong size).

I would only buy a pack of newborns and wait and see how big the baby is at birth. My son was 10 pounds, so we had to skip the newborn size altogether and people had bought us a lot of them for my shower. You will go through a lot in the first few weeks. We were able to exchange them as long as they weren't open.

Alrightly....you should get about two bags of newborn....5 bags of 1s then about 4 bags 2s. thats all i can tell you right now.. you can buy how many you want you can exchange them.. because i had too at walmart....you just get the money back and you can get wipes or diapers...but if you weigh alot when you was a baby...you might wont be using 1s alot..and look at the father when he was baby...just get what you think would be nice and you can always take them back what you dont use.. dont open all of them or anytying just go one bag at a time...and make sure you dont have any tears in the bags....but are you have a baby shower? if so write down the stuff you like to have and need....i wish i did...and write down a few items on the invite and you want you might be getting...if you haven already had a shower...good luck...if you want to pm go ahead love to talk...good luck and take care...

Hi there :)

If I was you I wouldn't buy too many as they grow so fast, and also you don't know what size baby your going to be giving birth too yet :)

A couple of the new born and a couple (packs)of the next size for back up will be ideal. Your child might develop a rash with the nappies and you don't want to be left with loads of nappies you can't use. If they are unopened packs and you haven't had them for weeks I would of thought they could be exchanged for a bigger size. Hope everything goes well :)

it all depends on how big or small the baby is when its born. my daughter was 8lbs 12oz so i never even used newborn diapers. so i would only buy 1 or 2 packs of newborns and more of size 1
