Since the fuel filter is apparently in the fuel tank, I got the impression that it is only replacable if you replace the whole pump. Are they still using the cylindrical filter or is it just built in? I bought a chevy because i thought they were trustworthy but if i have to pay $400 dollars just to replace a clogged fuel filter i am going to be irate.

It is NOT on the frame. That is where I looked to begin with and it is not there.

1st off, the fuel filter IS on the frame rail under the truck, sometimes they will put it on the back side of the engine, but not always.

2nd off, the fuel pump IS located in the tank and it has a fuel strainer/filter, but it doesn't filter as well as a normal filter. IT is only a preliminary filter and NOT all fuel pumps have this type of filter but all fuel pumps do have a strainer.

3rd, ALL vehicles can and are reliable with proper maintenance and care.

There is no filter on the frame rail. I just purchased a 2005 Silverado and at interstate speed it chugs and coughs like a plugged fuel filter. 5.3L V8. It s in the tank. I ll try injector cleaner first to see if that helps but I m not holding out much hope

The filter is in the fuel tank and is part of the pump assembly. It should never need to be replaced unless you get bad gas or debris in the system. This was designed to make the system easier to maintain and the filter material is less likely to get block like the standard filter cartridge. If you need it replaced, you will have to replace the fuel pump, that is the bad news.

In the tank. Not too bad, since it should really never need to be serviced and starving the fuel pump by having a clogged filter way upstream is costly.. I've only had one that needed to be changed in over a decade of driving. That one was from an obvious bad tank of gas.

Most or on the frame rail under the vehicle on the drivers side a little past the drivers door. Although I have heard a few people say theres is in the tank. I have also found out if you bring it into the dealership they will put it on the frame rail for you. The reason for it in the tank If I am not mistaken it is supposed to go like to canada or over seas.
