You don’t believe it can happen? Through our history it has happened.

Look up martial law Newton, Iowa 1937. Or the troops that marched on Detroit in 1967, or Detroit in 1943. There are many such events. Some are true martial law and some are only a degree of it and in violation of Posse Comitatus laws.

As you look at these various events you might say, well there was a need. Not with federal troops in the States or not with national guard under federal control.

What a reaction would be is dependant on the situation. When the federal government moves on United States civilians, the citizens will loose. To have it be otherwise the citizens must come together in mass to protect themselves. This is best done through militias called up by a local State governor.

Can citizens respond in such a manner? When I was young such was possible. Today, how many of you teach your children what firearms are and how to correctly use them? How many teach their children to live off the land?

We are loosing these necessary skills and the military can take advantage of such loss.

Don't rely on the 2nd Amendment. It is incorrectly written today as follows:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

It was ratified as follows:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

This difference in punctuation dramatically changes the meaning of the Amendment. (reference for this can be found in the Library of Congress.) I'll leave you the enjoyment of parsing the two versions, but in short, the federal government cannot do nothing to impact our keeping and bearing arms. Over 90 court cases support this conclusion. And yet the federal government passes such laws and comes after people with guns.

It is not even possible. We are too many, too widely spread out and too independent. Marshall law can and has been put in place in certain areas, cities, towns, etc. during riots and other unrest but to put the whole country under control simply can't happen. If it was a government who tried to enforce it on a country-wide basis, there are too many of us who "keep and bear arms"....no one will ever take over our country - not our government nor a foreign government.

If we are ever dismantled, it will be from within, when neighbor hates neighbor so much that he starts killing; when bigotry, racism and fundamentalist of any faith start causing imprisonment and death to those they don't like.....The apples in the barrel rot from within, not from the top.

Thank heavens for the 2nd amendment.

I'd go about my business as I normally do (except those late night beers--martial law usually involves some kind of curfew).

Our service members and DoD have proven that they can take care of us under even the worst circumstances. I wouldn't worry about the consequences of martial law, not in this country.

I'm looking for conservative generals to vote for in the next presidential election.
