I have spent this morning and afternoon evaluating some of the questions and answes here today and politics aside, I am appalled at the lack of candour, the propensity to be involved sophistry, anything just to side with a point of view that is now proven to be wrong, via living evidence.

No.. OBL is not entirely responsible for 9/11
YES.. The Saudis are the financiers of world terrorism
Yes...Bush attacked a country that did not threaten US
NO.. Bush refuses to go into Afghanistan or Pakistan to get OBL
YES.. Snooping and the Patriot acts are now part of US life

In a certain sense, I would say yes: Dishonesty is a prerequisite for maintaining a staunch conservative viewpoint. And when you consider the philosophical essence of conservatism -- resistance to change -- it's understandable (though not excusable).

Generally speaking, I believe there is a concerted effort on the part of conservatives to want to maintain the status quo, whether it's in the form of refusing civil liberties to ethnic minority groups, women, or gays and lesbians, or in the form of refusing to accept discoveries in modern science like stem-cell therapy and evolution.

Because our world is constantly changing, humanity is forced to deal with that change by making new discoveries about how to best cope with those changes. This process of coping -- really, of self-reflecting -- inevitably results in a better understanding of our world, which requires us to make positive changes to the way we live.

While liberals are generally well-equipped to deal with that change -- in fact, liberalism is defined by its ability to accept change for the sake of progress -- conservatives, with few exceptions, tend to insist that the "old way" of doing things is just fine. When it is clearly demonstrated to them that the old way is, in fact, the opposite of fine (even destructive, in some cases), this results in a philosophical dilemma for conservatives -- one which usually results in them having to lie to cover up their blatant error and misjudgment.

And your point is?
The people who answer these questions...even snooty, pointless, Party driven, or ignorance driven (that takes you in), are all trying to be part of life in the Internet.
What does it matter if the questions are not perfect, or correct in their premise? They are all trying to associate, communicate and have fun. Sometimes they vent their frustration and anger...sometimes their stated facts are wrong, or partially correct, or right on!!
Haven't you ever sang a song and gotten a few words wrong? You still enjoyed the song. So loosen up. Enjoy life and enjoy Answers. Pick the questions that suit you and ignore the rest.
The point I make is don't try to analyze the elephant with your eyes closed...he's more than tail and trunk, there's a great mass between the two.

You limited your question to just Conservatives? Why? You believe everyone else is perfect or above reproach? Or they just haven't been caught yet?
At times I believe that dishonesty is a prerequisite of anyone that wants to bash their beliefs into someone else.
Could be where the saying "if you can't enlighten them with facts -- dazzle them with bull-crap " came from.

Every politician is guilty of it at one time or another and anymore the citizens have just jumped on board and can't see the light for all the BS.

If you "evaluate questions" with your pre-conceived idea of what is truth and what is lies, then your evaluation is slanted and faulty. Therefore, you are the one that is being dishonest, but only with yourself.

For example:

The Saudis are not the only financiers of world terrorism. That is untrue. Iran sponsors Hezbollah for example.

The US did go to Afghanistan, perhaps you might recall a war faught there that is now being led by NATO.

Everything that you said is true, but please, do back up this statement:" OBL is not entirely responsible for 9/11."

What evidence do you have of this?

YEAH, THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT!!! NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BACK UP THAT ANTI-AMERICAN STATEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
