About 80% of the U.S. population said we don't want to invade Iran, yet our leaders are saying prepare for the attack on Iran. How is that democracy? Or even a republic? I am absolutely sick with our governments corruptness. And now the most watched news show on television is literally a joke. Americans are becoming completely ignorant of what our leaders and dictator Bush are doing. I'm calling for a repeal of the military commissions act, and the patriot act. If you are a true patriot, then fight your government. That's what democracy is all about.

We are not a true democracy, we are a republic. Many people do not understand that. We as people are standing for what is right. The problem seems to be that it is making no difference concerning the important issues. Our words and feelings do not seem to matter to this administration. The senate and house votes seem to be swayed extremely easily by lobby dollars and threats. The main stream media will not attempt to cover the citizens outrage but jump and run to cover when Britney shaves her head. Keep speaking up, keep speaking loud. That is all you can do.

It can't be called a democracy because it isn't a democracy nor was it ever intended to be a democracy. It is a republic. In a republic, the people vote in leaders and what the leaders do then, has nothing to do with the people.

However, 80% of the population didn't go out and say we didn't want to invade Iran, nor are our leaders planning on invading as of yet.

I don't want a war with Iran. I don't think it'd be a good idea nor would it be right (at the moment. They are, however, dangerous).

However, the majority voted Bush into office so its his job, not ours.

Its how government works.

The originators of the US government framework were enlightened enough that they recognized some of the shortcomings of the ancient Athens form of government. An idealistic democracy that governs day-by-day based on a majority vote turns into anarchy. Athens had to resort to a dictator from time to time to re-establish the government leadership needed.

The US is modeled on a REPRESENTATIVE democracy, meaning that once elected, the representative has a timeframe, defined by law, where they don't care how a majority would vote on any given issue.

If the actions of the government seem contrary to what the people would do, it is because Americans NEVER exceed 50% of the eligible number of voters participating.

It's a vote thing, dude. And, there is an important vote thing coming down in 2 years. Help get out the vote.

The way THIS democracy works, president Bush goes first to the Congress to seek approval for an invasion (as he did with Afghanistan and Iraq). He then goes to the UN for support from allies. These two actions combined consumed about 18 months of time between 9-11 and the invasion of Iraq.

If you'll remember, president Clinton did no such thing. He simply started bombing in the "no-fly" zones and Congress had no chance to vote on it.

Gee... I haven't heard ONE of the US Leaders: Bush, Cheney, Pelosi, et al state that we are preparing to invade Iran ???

Your question is also "OFF"... we are a democratically ELECTED representative Republic, and only fools who don't study think we are "nationally" a democracy.

What is amusing is those who DO say we're a democracy... or sadly, those who teach that we are.

The U.S. is a constitutional republic with a democratic election system.
As to whether our current administration is considering attacking Iran - I would hope they aren't. But then, I didn't think they would be stupid enough to invade Iraq for no good reason.
Why would they? My guess is that the current president is either insane or dangerously ignorant and self-absorbed.

It's not a democracy to begin with. It is in fact a constitutional representative Republic. I fear the fight will come soon enough without having to chase it.

We, the People, are fighting the madman in the White House - our representatives in Washington are already on the route that will either stop him or remove him from office.

Stay tuned and watch democracy in action....and, FYI, read how we kicked Nixon's butt out.

This question shows your ignorance. We are a constitution based federal republic.

It is kind of funny that you are so intellectually retarded that you don't even know what type of government the US is.

Whack-job!
