They should be able to sync or manually add them just like anything else in iTunes.
Two things, you can only put audio podcasts on your nano and make sure you have the latest version of iTunes.

If you have a new installation of iTunes, you have to make sure that iTunes knows to transfer podcasts as well as music. See the instructions at the included link for an explanation of how to do this for your device. It's under the Summary tab.

It is like same as transferring the songs and also you got the option to update automatically from OPTIONS menu.
