I have to wake up at 5:45am on weekdays, which is fine, but I recently I have been naturally waking up anywhere from 3-5 in the morning and I can't get back to sleep. Please help. I'm 17 and still growing.

If you really want a chance at overcoming this without medication, you are going to have to go to bed and get up at the same time every day, weekends included. If you feel that you have to be out late, get up no matter how tired you are. No naps either! Get plenty of exercise. Don't exercise after about 6 pm. Don't ingest caffeine after 3pm, or better yet, not at all. If this doesn't work you might want to check with your doctor and make sure some underlying health issue is not causing insomnia.

You're probably very tense and worried about things like assignments, peer-pressure, family issues, and so on. Try to relax, especially before bed. Take a warm bath and listen to relaxing music before bed. Don't have a TV in your room. Remove stressors as much as you can. For example, do assignments early...that way, it's done and you don't have to rush to do them at the last minute. Study regularly, therefore, you don't have to cram for exams. Research all kinds of relaxation tips. If you have personal problems, talk to your parents (if you can), or to a trusted teacher or friend. Happy sleep to you!

You could try exercising more in the daytime. During track season, I noticed I was sleepier in the evening and had more steady sleep. There could also be a problem with your mattress. If there are pressure points between your body and your mattress, than this could be a cause of poor sleep.
