Use iptables or some Linux workaround. There is no security on the internet. There are programs and settings that help, but it is like the fella that was asked why he robbed banks, reply, "Because that is where the money is."
Best practice is a backup routine. Then do not use the money junk on a computer that has an active internet connection. Just because there is a padlock icon on the browser does not mean that the data is traveling through 5 servers, 3 satellites.then joes pc that has a Wi Sniffer set up.
That is the reality. For now.
Some corporation that cashes your checks will tell you that everything is secure, when it crashes from a virus or exploit, read the EULA, they are not liable.
Do not keep #s and Personal Data on a PC that has an active connection, use a data storage device, external hard drive, encrypt it, log off the internet connect it, get what data you need, balance up what data or figures that need it, back everything up, then disconnect it.
Go back online, use the /ipconfig flushdns command do what you want. Digital Data gets corrupted, comps get hacked, viruses will get in, so back it up and use wisdom about when to have an active internet connection and when to disconnect.
That is what the NSA does, so it must be sorta secure.

The only software you should use from norton is Norton Systemworks. Your only supposed to install it on one computer, however I had 2 computers and installed just fine. I went to put it on my girlfriends computer and it wouldnt work. I called norton and they said only 1 computer per disk. I got 2 different installs out of it. Norton systemworks does not take up alot system resources. Norton systemworks is the best so far. However spysweeper just added anti-virus to their #1 spyware program, so that might make it the best, but only time will tell. You can always try installing on 3 different computers and see what it does. Like I said mine only worked on 2.

Norton is not very good.
Advice Look through ebay in software anti virus, look for panda titanium 2006, dont pay more than £15.00 for it, you will get a free upgrade to titanium 2007 when you register and you automatically get 3 licenses at no extra cost, full suite including the latest tru prevent technologie's, i use it and it is very very good eliminates spyware whilst you are browsing.
I manage about a dozen systems and this is the best paid one i have come across, it is also easy to customise and is flexible. mine arrived within 3 days of paying for it. it is also very light on system resources which of course Norton is not, it is probably about the worst.
also included protection against unknown threats, anti spyware, anti phising, prevents dangerous internet access, firewall, email scanner and more mine cost me £6.40 including postage, £2.33 per box it is installed on! beat that for a paid version. oh yes and i havent had any virus problems in the last 5 months and i spend 10 hours a day online doing various things.
Enjoy
