I am concerned when you say you are confused when you "woke up" and realize that the time pass. if you are experiencing periods of time where you don't remember doing anything, like a blackout, you need to talk to your doctor, and perhaps a specialist. If it is more like you have been daydreaming while doing routine things, then nothing is wrong, daydreams encourage imagination and creativity which leads to learning and experimenting. it might be a good idea to mention it to your doctor either way, if you are confused when you wake up.

Well it's a matter of common sence and persistance. I believe to become smarter one must read often to enhance the brain to think more. There really isn't an exact answer. Just train your brain to learn as much as you can by reading a lot. Good luck!

It doesn't sound like a problem with intelligence, you need to see a doctor there maybe something going on that only the medical profession can help with. In the meantime don't be hard on yourself, your looking for ways to make things better!

To start with, you may try to improve your physical health by eating good easily digestible food and by being more moderately physically active so you may become fresher in your brain, and more serene, even more happy in your life.
Then you may try a good old exercise where you read a sentence that fascinates you, close your eyes, and so try to repeat that sentence, going on with it until you have become able to repeat that sentence perfectly. Then you may read another sentence whose content is fascinating to you and so close your eyes and try to repeat it until you succeed in repeating it perfectly.
So, an example of an elixir to success in becoming smarter: good health first, memory training then by learning by heart sentences whose content fascinates you - and so you may end up by luckily feeling that you have become a bit smarter in your life. Good luck!
