I need to bring in a CD of what I think would be suitable for us to play, and I have no idea. Anyone know of some jazz pieces that could be played by a 9th grade class?

Yes, I have a suggestion. The song My Jelly Roll Soul, by Charles Mingus, might actually be good for your kids. It's medium paced and the melody is pretty basic. Of course the solos will be different, but the melody is doable. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:fpez97ijkrrt

I hope that if yo choose this song, you educate your kids a bit about Charles Mingus. Do what you can to keep the kids turned on to jazz, and music in general.

PS-Please if you do choose this song let me know how it went.
