My father had red hair. My hair is dark brown but was kind of auburn when I was younger. My Husband has red hair. Is red a very dominant color?

Red is not dominant. Your baby could have red hair though. Your husband will give the baby a red hair gene and you have a 50/50 chance of passing on a red hair gene since your dad had red hair.

The reason why red heads are dying out is that in order to have a red haired child, the child has to inherit the gene from BOTH parents (there has to be red hair on both sides of the family... if no one in your extended family is a red head, it's impossible that you'll have a red haired child.) Red hair is the result of a recessive gene, again must come from both sides (that doesn't mean YOU have to have red hair, but someone in your extended family must, grandparents or even great grandparents, etc.) You have to at least carry the gene.

Red hair is a recessive trait. Brown hair is dominant over red, so chances are, your baby will be born with dark hair, but will be adorable no matter what.

It is all in the genes.. there will be no way of telling til the baby is born. My husband has a dark complexion and dark eyes, black hair. And I am pale, blonde, green eyes. My son got everything from me. He is pale, blonde/light brown hair and blues eyes. I happen to be dominant with him and now I have one on the way and I would love to know who he will look like. But just have to wait and see. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Well since the red gene seems pretty prominent in your family id say your son has a 75% chance of having red hair. I suppose you dont have red hair cause your mother doesent.Usually when both the parents have red hair you can be assured that your son will have it too.

You've got about a 50/50 chance of having a redheaded baby. It's all about dominant and recessive genes.
