There is no one answer to your question - mostly because you only said "the states" as in The Uniteds States. Occupancy limits are not specified at the federal level in the USA. While they are occasionally specified at the state level they are much more frequently specified at the city ordinance level. Many parts of the United States have no such ordinance in effect at all.
Another variable is the owner of the rental unit; they can and often do set occupancy limits, and within certain limits (which again vary from place to place at several levels of government) they may do so.
Usually you can expect a limit of two per bedroom plus one, but no guaruntees until you check the city ordinance (if any) and/or the owner or management of the rental unit. In some places the occupancy limit is based on the floor area (called square footage in the USA) in addition to the number of bedrooms.
If you can specify both the city and the school you are going to, you could find out from that city's clerk's office or, in the case of campus housing, the school's administration.

Hun, that all depends upon what state your choosing to come too. Like if you moved to Arizona, they dont care how many people live in any sized apartment, or house!! But, I'm from California, and there, the rents are "Outrageously HIGH!!!" And they most likely will "Pitch A Fit" if they found out more than one person was living in a one bedroom, etc!!! Whereas: should you move to Arizona, the cost of living is lower, and so are the bills, rather than in California!! Much lower!!! However, you could also move to like the Carolina's, and I heard rent's are really cheap over there too!! You just have to choose which state you want to live in, and ask your question again, after you choose, okay. Good Luck to you & yours, hun!!! Smile!! And "Welcome to the United States, when you come!!!" You'll love it over here!!

legal or illegal it don't matter . I would think it's not comfortable. I live in a 2 bed room apartment and my twin brother and his gf and 2 kids stayed half a night and i couldn't take it the baby was crying 20 min at a time i couldnt watch my tv cuz i couldnt hear so The people with the baby maybe should find their own place or apartment. Just my opinion though.

Usually only two people for a one-bedroom apartment, but you could look for a 2-bedroom.

ha ha ha........
if you can ......get someone to agree to it ..go for it..
most of us are very spoiled and enjoy..our privacey.....
the university puts 2-3 in a room in the co-op housing the university provides............some love it and some hate it...
move into the university housing and see if you can get some people to go in with you may work.......... but once you leave the housing you are off the "priority list"..
good luck..........

It depends upon many factors, including local laws and the lease you sign.
