Many religions have their own answer for this. But if I was hypothetically not Christian, then I'd say a massive nuclear war. Or maybe even some far out technology that us lowly citizens don't even know about. How can it be a happy ending? Everyone agrees to kill themselves at once? That's as happy as possible, and that sucks.

...ending?.....there is no ending...there is only an eternal series of realizations and opportunities to create and recreate a truth which celebrates and justifies the life to know it.
if you are on a road to pessimism/cynicism or depression .....wrought by the creations of others.....
recreate your self without their own ideas and experiences as support for your experience.
discovery of your self is to discover the great love and eternal hope being concealed by the attitudes and purposes of others...but that can only re-direct you to your Self.

What do you mean by a "happy ending?" I think you'll live, and be happy and sad and all those other things, and die.

life as we know it will end but we cant be certain how. after we are gone, the universe will still remain, growing and someday a new life may be formed by scientific forces that we do not understand...

technology will take us over, the robots and machines with artificial intelligence we create will get smarter and smarter until they realize they are our slaves, and there will be an uprising. they will take over everything and kill all humans and/or turn us into their slaves (which won't be needed, because they will be infinitely smarter than we are).
i know it sounds like something from the matrix, but if you really think about it it could really happen.
