My laptop may have inbuilt things but that has nothing to do with how viruses work as viruses spread via software to vulnerabilities in it.
I think Microsoft has a good hardy OS.

Like all new things, problems will arise. Vista is new and they believe it be fool proof but they honestly believed the others were fool proof too at the time. It has not been up and running for long and there will be glitches and hackers. There is always somebody smarter out there just ready to cause havoc, it's just a matter of time.

Laptops probably do well with Vista as they not have all the Extras that a desk top would have, that at this time may lack Driver Support. As with XP after a SP1 come out a OS will be more stable. Already Hackers have learn to get into Vista, so, the SP1 "Should" address this problem and have a security fix.
Now, for myself, I still use Windows 98 SE on this Laptop and have a Dual Boot with SUSE Linux. The only problem I had with XP and Vista was why fix something that work and 98SE works fine for me. It is fast on the Internet. The money I saved by not buying XP and Vista I built a real nice Desktop and loaded my Windows 2000 Pro and Ubuntu Linux dual boot. Windows 2000 has support until 2010 so it still a viable OS and I think XP supported until 2012 + so I figure I will never get XP or Vista and in 2010 see what is on the Auction Block for a windows OS. With windows there really no reason for "me" to buy every time they have a new OS. Just once every ten years and I OK with a supported OS. But, Linux is fixing to have it's day in the sun. As many versions install easy, detect all the hardware and have nice Graphics interface.

Some people are keeping XP because Vista is prone to more viruses and attacks as it is fresh off development.

Different people do different things on the computer. My kids play a game on the computer called toontown. It works on a apple computer but it wont work on a XP.Also they might want something cheap that fits there needs. You found something good for you quikly , but for others it might take a while to find just the right one.

you only see that because it is a laptop. everything in it is onboard or part of the motherboard. it is nothing like a desk top PC. not even close. a desktop has all sorts of things added to it like video, sound, HDD, ect. this is why it isn't good. most things aren't compatible for the pc yet.
