I mean males dominate everything almost, but lets look at music. I mean look at the worlds biggest bands; beatles, u2, led zeppelin, pink floyd, is it just one big coincidence that they are all men. The worlds greatest female bands like Abba, they are never as good as male bands, and lets not forget that they don't compose their music. Yes i think males do dominate music.

I'm a woman and i have to say i prefer listening to men singing and prefer rock/ indie music which tend to be more male dominated. That's just personal taste on my part.

A lot of the music that's held up as classic or credible (Beatles, Stones, Nirvana, Radiohead etc etc) is male dominated, but there are a heck of a lot of talented women who have made millions, written amazing songs and had great careers; Madonna and Kate Bush spring to mind and if you saw the Brits this week, the female artist categories were amongst the strongest and most varied (Amy Winehouse, Pink, Nelly Furtado, Christina etc etc. Apparently these are the acts that are doing well in America, not blokes with guitars in 4 piece bands.

While it may be true there has been something of a glass ceiling in the music business preventing women to some extent, or pushing them into more traditional directions like dance music or ballads, it would seem to be less the case these days.

Besides, some female bands do do their own stuff, the Bangles, CSS, Hole, i could go on...

Ummmm--just fyi ABBA was 2 women and 2 men.

And what about Fleetwood mac, Jefferson Airplane, (mixed with female leads) Janis Joplin, Heart...and and SO many more, but we're only talking rock here.

Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Beverly Sills, Debbie Reynolds, Bette Midler, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, The Judds, Mary Martin, Julie Andrews...

These women are hardly second rate. Your question speaks a whole lot more about you than the current state of male or female domination in the music industry.

Wow... seems like you want to focus on times past. You're also picking a time periods in which women had fewer rights to begin with. It is very convenient of you to pick scenarios in which you can stack the odds in your favor, in all of your questions.

Today's music is a completely different story. The Dixie Chicks, Gretchen Wilson, Evanescence, Celine Dion, and many more. All of these groups/artists have a hand in writing their own music. If you want to go back to old classics, what about Ella Fitzgerald? Billy Holiday? The Supremes? Peggy Lee? Music would not be the same today without Fitzgerald and Holiday. The fact that they overcame such adversity in their time (being both female and African American in a time when neither was acceptable) is a testiment to their superb talents.

Yes and No...

If you learn the History of every cultures and nations and religion, they ussually (mostly) are really gender discriminating, and women are mostly prihibited for doing everything but homework... also in art in this case music.

Since the modern era / 20th century, to be specific after the Feminisme grows, it started to changes...

So if you're talking universally, the rating from all time, then you're right that men does dominate music, and everything else. But if we're talking right now... then You better do a survey to find it out... since right now atleast 75% of world populations are women... (as in Jurasic Park, "Women inherit the Earth", LOL).

Hope this help
Bless You

Actually I think ABBA were underrated. For what it's worth they were 2 females and 2 males, and the two males (Benny and Bjorn) composed nearly all of their songs. For a band from a non-english speaking country to be successful in a music industry that snobbily favours only bands from english-speaking countries, all four of them had to have plenty of talent to still make it. The composing skills of the two males and the singing skills of the two females.

The reason? Females wont support each other like males do!
If you look at all of the ladies that have achieved fame, they are 'loved' by a female fan base and then.... ? something new/better/prettier comes along and out come the claws! "oh, she's a dog!... so and so is sooo much better!" and it goes down hill after that.
Britney Spears. Not a vocal talent but she had the ability to snag the opposite sex! all the girlie's loved her!! NOW.... she's a momma, half nuts (nothing strange there) and no longer on a pedestal with men. Guess what.... " she's a dog!...... "

Women are too flaky with their loyalties, and the male opinion means WAY TOO much.
Ladies if you're reading this.......
WAKE UP AND START SUPPORTING YOUR SISTERS!!!!!
love ya!

It is true that overall, males have been more successful in the music industry. But there are many females that deserve the same respect. Madonna, Heart, Aretha Franklin, etc.

Yeah, true... I think part of it is that men pretty much dominate society. Not to mention, guys just rock harder. Girls are afraid to get themselves dirty, but guys would bite the heads off of small animals and scare young children to gain fans.

You seem to be extremely uneducated and bigotted with regard to your "question." A LOT of women write their own music. Why are you posting out of such ignorance?
