What is the best laptop to get for under 1000 bucks?

I am looking to get a laptop but I have no clue as to which one to get. Plus the price is a big factor as well.

Toshiba has pretty good laptops. They invented them, after all.
Their Satellite series tends to be high quality, and they are now selling with Windows Vista.

HP is one of the better low end laptop companies--if you are an educator or student, or anyone in your family is, you can qualify for a discount as well-btw, -they really dont ask for proof and you shop their online store
