To a certain extent, they may give you a hint about who the person is. For instance, I am a conservative and when I see a picture of an avatar that is wearing a hippie head band or a mohawk or something, I assume that they are probably liberal people. But I always read their answers anyways. Ever heard, "Don't judge a book by it's cover"? It is hard to do this, but I think that everyone deserves a fair shot. And just because people don't have the same viewpoints, doesn't mean that they can't get along.
I think that most people on here answer the questions that they find to be interesting. I know I do. I don't even look at the avatar of the questioner, usually just the people who answer the questions.

I rarely look at the avatar until after I read and answer the question and I usually have to go back and check them if I find some answers interesting etc.. So No I don't.

Good question. I thought it would be more like how much they affect if you pick them as your best answer or not. I better get a better avatar although Judas Rabbi's is pretty generic

Doesn't affect whether I answer or not. I don't really even look at them. I look at the Question.

I go for substance, not looks. That's why I only look at the question asked, not at the avatar. I only look at that after I've answered the question.

None...at least it doesn't affect me. I usually don't even look at the avatar.

I keep my eyes covered...it's amazing how visual we can all be....I only answer questions that appeal to me...like yours...there are a lot of pathetic ones floating around I must say.....nice to have the avatars to differentiate.

None, but some avatars do entice me to look further and see if the person has a 360.

Put it this way - a good avatar doesn't make me answer a Q, but a bad one puts me off. Like foul things like...well, that small manhood one.
