Ferocious can mean so many things.
If you means animals that inflict a whole lot of pain, look at the giant water bug, also known as the toe-biter. Their bite injects the victim with a flesh liquefying saliva and is considered one of the most painful bites that can be inflicted by any insect.
If you think of animals dangerous to humans, think about your friendly neighborhood hippopotamus. It is very defensive towards humans and is known to be the African mammal most dangerous to humans.
But I do believe the all-around "Most Ferocious" Title would have to go to a featherweight- the red-bellied piranha, Pygocentrus nattereri. These razor-toothed tropical fish devour everything- fish, fruit, cattle, parts of people, and even their own young! While their chompers are fierce, their true power comes when they attack as a school. This begins a feeding frenzy identifiable through churning blood red water from which few can survive- with all limbs intact anyway.

If by pain, the irukandji box jellyfish is the most ferocious. It is rather small, only 12 mm in diameter, but its sting packs a punch. Just the slightest sting from a irukandji can kill a human in two minutes. Its initial sting is mild, but as its venom travels to the heart through the bloodstream, it causes severe agony, raised blood pressure, increased heart rate, and death.
I believe that the animal most dangerous to humans is the human. Humans have developed cruel and efficient ways to kill each other, and have created vast scenes of war, terror, and destruction. Humans have even been known to kill and eat other humans (cannibalism).

The wolverine has long been considered an extremely fierce animal. It will even attack a bear in order to get the bear's recent kill. It is about the size of a medium dog, and although a member of the weasel family it is stocky and quite muscular. It has an extremely large range and therefore not a lot is known about this animal. From a Canadian point of view, definitely not an animal to tackle!

Definitely humans. We ruthlessly cut down trees, destroy our earth, and not really care about animals. Humans will never stop until a major event happens causing us to die. I think that these things make us truly ferocious.
