Snow staying on the roof only indicates that the attic is somewhat insulated. You should look in the attic to see how much insulation there is. Take off a receptacle or switch cover on an outside wall and see if the walls are insulated. Check the windows to see if they are single or multiple pane. Check the utility bill and compare it with what you might expect.

Unless it blows off, the snow should stay on the roof for quite a while if it stays cold outside. If the eaves have an ice build-up or a lot of icicles, that's a sign of poor insulation in the attic.
