The thing that gets me going first is the lack of know-how that most people seem to think will be glossed over during the course of a performance. You know, "well, I'm not so sure how this goes, but if we do it with feeling, nobody will notice".
Know-how, or even to be snobby, expertise, comes first. There are enough wannabes out there to give anyone a run for their money.
Emotion comes second, because, even if it's sincere, it'll never replace technique. Or begin to make up for lack of it....

Saw Jagger at 66 sprint all over a huge stage for a 3 hour show. He had to have put in at least 2 miles that night and didn't perform or look any worse than he did 30 years ago. Buffett's still rockin 3 shows a week, 30 weeks a year at 65. But then I saw Chuck Berry in a small club when he was in mid 70s and his performance showed his age. I personally expect less due to age but am usually surprised by the energy left. Considering the average rocker lifestyle of any act around in the '60s and '70s, I'm amazed most of these guys are still breathing let alone rocking.

One word: Tambourine
Also when a band takes like 6 or 7 breaks over the course of 4 hours, and each one of the breaks lasts like 20 minutes. It's like, you're being hired to play music, dont walk around and drink beer and mingle.

i'm not a musician, but as a fan, i can't stand to see a band member just stand there when playing. saw finger 11 play on v-day, the bass player never moved from one spot. he only shifted his weight from foot to foot. boring! and the singer also. the whole point of a singer not playing a guitar is so he can hold the microphone and move around the stage. the guy never moved from his spot either. very boring!

I notice that they all have similiar tempos, and they always hit the same cords/notes in all there songs. Also, they never have vocals and insturments in harmony, there both all over the place.
And the insturments are all on seperate tempos, that reallyticks me off.
