I used the word Offal, and they had no idea what I was talking about.

i called my brother a "stupid hominid" and my parent and him didnt know what a "hominid" is!!!! lol. i was like OMG!

In what context did you use the word offal? That's a strange one. Are you a butcher? Ha ha! What an odd word. I can't say I've ever actually used, I know it, but I don't ever remember having to say it. As for your question, I used the word, "tact" a few weeks ago and my friends little sister didn't know what it was. But she's only 17 so it's kind of understandable.
