The key should be with your installation CD. If the code is enter all ready did you try clickig ok? Some times when your hardware or system setting change that can happen. You need to enter the code and click ok.

If you have a legal copy of M$-Word, re-enter your CD key codes and reboot. then try opening Word again. Call M$ if it still won't work.
If you don't have a legal copy of M$-Word, try Open Office, free from www.openoffice.org. It can open and save all Word docs, etc., just remember to save them in the same format you originally used.

might be you are using the ms office corrupted software, and i think this problem arose to you bcoz , u connected ms office from your pc to internet , after that microsoft catches ur key name and ur details from ms word ,and compares with that key owner, if doesnt matches , then microsoft automatically deletes the key inside ur pc and it wont work, i think this is not your problem ,this ur pc problem , first while connecting internet, stop automatic updates to off position on control panel,
i will suggest you to re-install the windows and use the ms office, defnitely it works

do you still have your packaging with the character key?
if worse somes to it, you should be able to open them in something more basic, like notepad.
"textpad" is a good program for that kinda thing.
