If you leave your fridge unplugged in a garage and it gets below 32 our there the moisture that is present in the freon in the fridge compressor valves can freeze and expand and damage the valves in the compressor.

The outside A/C units have a built in compressor heater that stays on at all times and keeps the compresor warm, so as not to freeze the moisture in compressor and damage it. Therefore You would not ever want to disconnect your 220 volt breaker power from the A/c .

Apart from damage - ambient temperature can affect how your refrigerator works - ie if it's cold the fridge might not turn on and if it's hot it might run all the time.
