It is very easy. Be patent. In the past couple of decades the dowry system has come down considerably. In the next decade people who encouraged will have gone. The next generation has learnt a lot. I am quite sure that 2050, India or the Families who want to give dowry may not exist.

Why would you want dowry to end? What's wrong with it? All it is (Islamically, at least) is a gift from a husband to his wife during the time of their marriage. Is it wrong to have such a thing in society?? I don't see how or why. Care to help me understand? Perhaps it'd help if you'd mention to us answerers/readers what kind of dowry system is being practiced in your society.

u cannot make dowry free society.because all persons are directly or indirectly support this. i can feel to make demand dowry before marriage and after the marriage dangerous. so society will make to free on that.
i think it is possible to all persons.

relies upon on the subculture. In some societies a dowry is in simple terms an accumulation of homestead products that a woman collects and brings to the marriage. additionally ordinary as a glory container.

If you don't like the dowry system then don't use it. That's no reason to ban it for everyone else. My husband gave me a dowry on our wedding night because that's what my religion teaches to happen. And he hasn't done anything stupid. If your talking about India they can only help themselves.

Section 498 A and the new Domestic violence act are going to ensure that all men end up in jails not because they demanded dowry (In fact as per Indian goverment figures 90% of all cases are false and baseless and the Supreme Court Of India had to say publicly it is legal terrorism)but because they committed the supreme stupidity of beleiving that the modern indian woman will respect and not abuse these laws , that she is a home maker not a home breaker.
And dont worry those that get bail will probably committ suicide with their faimlies because of loss of face in scoiety.

And the real dowry seekers will continue but now they will become even more sinister and evil.
These laws wont stop burning of brides for dowry but they certainly will kill the indian culture and make it an animalized society.
What feminism has done to the west is now what this perverted interpretation of empowerment of women is doing in India.
I broke off my marrige because what is the gaurantee that the female is not going use these laws against you later for any reason excpet the demand for dowry or abuse????

well the only way to reduce dowry is that girls have to educated and they must learn to de courageous enough to fight the society.they must not care about the society.

dowry is a girls share in her dads/moms/family property .. that can be given as cash in kind as land or as jewellry or a mix of both .. it brings in lot of respect and also some financial stability to a newly marrired couple... treating it like a commercial deal bargaining etc is wrong..

By refusing to marry someone who asks for it. Such people are not worth spending your life with. Self-respect and self-worth is everything. It's like saying 'I'll pay you to marry me'. That is not a marriage that is a compromise. Marriage can't be a business. Stupid stupid practice. I'd rather not marry at all. This is why education is so important, and why its important for women to be independed. Thank god this practice is declining.
