He or She should share the nationality of the birth parent(s). If the father is not married to the mother, it is determined solely by the mother's national citizenship.

well i know it sounds weird but he might actually have the oportunity of choosing his own culture and religion...he can see what nationality he finds best and whatever religion makes the most sense to him...also if he moves from no mans land to a country, say france, he could apply for passport and citizenship and technically become french. as for his religion hell just have to see which one makes more sense to him and which he believes the most.
