Organisms can only live where their basic needs can be met: proper nutrition, shelter, water, appropriate climate, pollution not too bad, etc.

The place that supplies an organism with these conditions is the habitat.

I agree with ecolink that they can only live where they can meet their needs. Organisms have been found living in all types of habitats, even the most unlikely, such as hydrthermal vents in the deep ocean.

possibly the term you are looking for is biosphere. which is defined as the outer most shell ofthe earth where, air,land water and surface rock are located, this is where all life on earth is found
