How about a weekend vacation with his Mom & Dad (if both are in the picture) and a couple of friends? You probably know already what he loves to do (ski, beach, etc.) and can find a nice spot for a vacay not too far away (i.e. by car). Let the kids get their own room (next door) and enjoy their time and all of you can get together in the evening and go to a restaurant or barbecue in. Perhaps a camping trip, even, to save money. This will give you and your mate something to look forward to and your son will probably love it.
Remember to call his friends beforehand to schedule a time and date. You and your mate (or just you) can book a trip, talk to the other kids' parents, and make some plans within a day or two. Best of luck to you, and happy birthday to your son!

It's probably best to ask him what he's interested in, to ensure that you don't end up buying the wrong thing.
As a second choice money or a gift card to a clothing store or electronic store (best buy, circuit city) is good too so they can have a choice to get what they want. Good luck.

What about a gift card from a good store? my parents gave me a gift card from HMV and I was really happy because I love music.Money is good also a digital camera.Whatever there interested in.
