Last weekend I began bleeding a bright red, but it only lasted for 24 hours. I went in for an ultrasound the following Monday and everything was fine. Baby had a heartbeat and growth was right on track.

The doctor said that it was implantation bleeding. Everything that I had read about this type of bleeding says it is usually more spotty and pink or brown and occurs around the time of your missed period. I was 7 1/2 weeks along! Does this sound right??? The doc said it was from the implantation/growth of the placenta, not the baby. Anyone else experience this???

Also, I was outside doing yardwork right before this happend. Could that have caused the bleeding instead?

This will be my third child and I have never bled with my previous pregnancies.

I've been having the same problem (I'm 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant). My doctor did some blood work to check my HCG levels a few times and did a few ultrasounds. They saw a heartbeat and the baby was growing fine. They found that I have Subchorionic Hematoma, also known as a blood clot in my uterus. I'm going back to my OB/GYN on Tuesday so I should know more about it then but my doctor told me that's where my bleeding was coming from. This could possibly be your problem. The clots come in a lot of different sizes and yours could possibly just be too small to be seen through an ultrasound. As long as they saw a heartbeat and the baby is growing fine I'd try not to worry about it so much right now (I know this is easier said then done). Unless you are experiencing cramping it sounds normal! Good luck and I hope everything turns out for the best!

I've also provided a link to a website that can give you some information on Subchorionic Hematoma.

I doubt this had anything to do with doing yardwork. Some women spot throughout their entire pregnancy. I'm not sure why, but they do...and they can have a perfectly healthy baby. What you said about implantation bleeding is what I know to be true from research and personal experience. But I'm sure your Dr. knows more on the subject. Maybe the placenta attached deeper to the wall of your uterus and that caused the bleeding. If you're concerned, you may want a second opinion, but if the ultrasound was ok, then it sounds like everything is fine. Good luck!

I had the same thing happen at 6 1/2 weeks and i was terrified. I was lightly spotting for about 4 days and then it stopped. I had never heard of it until my doc told me what it was and he said it is very common. It is just the baby getting comfy. I am now 18 weeks pregnant and everything is OK. There are no known causes for this that i am aware of, but if the ultrasound says baby is ok, then relax...the best is yet to come.

That is not implantation bleeding that late. That only happens in the beginning of the pregnancy when the fertilized egg attaches to your uterus..... It could be the placenta though. With my 3rd son I bled at 7 weeks and got so scared. But nothing came of it, and we dont have any idea why.

Hmmm well I never had that but when I was 12 weeks, I bled very heavily to the point that I thought I was miscarrying... but my daughter was fine... Bleeding in the first trimester is very common.

Bleeding could be caused by intercourse 24-48 prior. As long as the heartbeat was strong and you don't continue to bleed you'll be fine.

If you really think something is wrong, You know your body better then anyone, Go get checked out again by your doc just to put your mind at ease that's what I did, I was always paranoid.

It could have been twins, and one miscarried.
