I know last year was harsh, but what about this year? With the Flames' new additions and what not??

Last year was harsh meaning that we went to the first round of the playoffs, but lost to Anaheim.

I think that if the Flames can win the division, they can make another deep playoff run. Without winning the division, they will most likely not have home advantage, and looking at this year's road record, I wouldn't like their chances. As for the changes they have made, I think that they are gearing up for the playoffs. First of all, Craig Conroy is a guy who can kill penalties, win faceoffs, and log a lot of ice time, all things that the Flames will need if they are to make another run. The same thing goes for Wayne Primeau. As for Brad Stuart, who would you rather have going into the playoffs, a passive number 5 or 6 defenceman in Andrew Ference, or an offensive number 3 or 4 defenceman who can make some great passes, in Brad Stuart. The two trades the Flames have made this year will hopefully lead the Flames deep into the playoffs, and even to a Stanley Cup.

Calgary may not be having a spectacular regular season, but I think with Regehr, Phaneuf, Hamrlik, and now Stuart that defense is top 5 in the league. Kiprusoff can win games all by himself, that's a given, and oh yeah, they have Iginla, Huselius, and Langkow too. The recent history of the NHL playoffs shows that seedings aren't necessarily an advantage, so as long as Calgary gets in, they should do very very well.
