I have an eye for color and shapes and designs, yet at the same time I like getting my hands dirty and seeing that the car runs good and is in tip top shape. Pros and cons and opinions whether good or bad will be helpful. THANKS

i own a repair shop, and i chose to do the mechanic part of it even though i started out in auto body,so what i did was build two shops, and i mechanic by day and occasionally paint a few cars and trucks, this is sort of good in a way because sometimes it slows down a little in the repair work, and i always got at least three setting here to start paint and body work on,even though its just a hobby really ,i built the other shop just for my own use,but things changed when everyone seen my paint work,so now i basically have something to fall back on,but if had it to do over again i would have stayed with the paint and body as a main way of making a living,i think its easier, and pays about 3 times as much ,i can clear 2 thousand a week in the paint shop,as only a 1000-1200 a week mechanic, its really up to you ,both pay good, but as soon as you can work for your self,it pays a lot better, good luck ,i hope this help,s.

Auto technician= Strong knowledge of electronics,
must be able to diagnose many different systems on modern cars. Large investment in tools. A degree is neccessary if you want to work at a dealership. Constant ongoing education
Not real good money
Body Technician=ICAR certification
Not so many tools
Dusty working conditions. toxic chemicals
Good money only if you're good at it
Endless supply of crashed cars
Insurance trends are away from fixing any serious collision damage

Do both do one as a career and one as like a side job or hobby. It's your future you do what it most comfortable to you.

Both are actually pretty good. Too hard to decide which way to go.
