He got what he deserves and hopefully this lawsuit will be thrown out and he will be fined for wasting the courts time. This is ridiculous.

I would have to know the guy to say what I thought of him. But what I think of his actions is a different thing. He was foolish, he risked his job, and he lost his job. To say this "is an example of what is wrong with our society", is too strong. Most people do not look at porn at work. This has nothing to with work being outsourced to other countries! Yes, companies do outsource for the cheap labor, but those people also have access to the Internet they do the same thing.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless you've seen this kind of message several times in the past. I once clicked on a site claiming to have pictures of a '67 Nova (or something like that), and I got a warning that I can't visit that site due to adult content. IT people know that accidents happen, and so long as it isn't a habit, you should be fine.

That's ridiculous. If a company sets down rules, you follow them, or you get fired. I don't care if you've got 'down time' or whatever; don't do it. If their rules are unfair or downright wrong, guess what you do? You don't work for them!
Does this guy have a genuine problem, or is he just horny? Frankly, I don't think it matters. It's not the company's responsibility to help this guy, and if he's not doing his job, then he deserves to be fired.
Assuming he did visit those websites and this isn't related to age or anything else, I think it is fine that he was fired.

other workers with worse offenses were disciplined less severely — including a couple who had sex on a desk and were transferred.
*
The problem with korporate discipline and evaluation is that it is inconsistent and arbitrary. I think they just hate a guy because he is old and because he is a veteran and he may even be fat, maybe they just hate America and the military.
*
The outsourcers are on the internet just as much, and those foreigners love American women.
*
The boss will figure out a way to get rid of the ratter, too, because he knows the next person he ratts on might be him.

no one should be wasting time looking at porn or visiting chat rooms on company time...that should be done in the privacy of your own home. most companies don't tolerate goofing off at work.

That's really inappropriate for the workplace. Don't get mad because you get punished for breaking rules of which you are aware. If you want to watch porn, do it at home!

I think this guy abused his boss by taking a paycheck! he should have been fired! If he wants to watch porn, fine...but do it on his own time, not his bosses.!!

he obviously violated company policy, and to say he is an addict is weak, that means that people can do meth and heroin at work and not get fired because they are an addict,it makes no sense,he should have had sense enough not to view it at work.
