This hasn't been "true" in over two decades and even then there was no real evidence to support it. And the term you're looking for is "servo".
If the laptop is plugged in (not running on battery power) and none of the air intakes (for cooling) are blocked, it is perfectly fine to leave them on overnight. You don't even have to hibernate them, though it may save you a few cents on your power bill.

I were given a MacBook some months in the past (swapped over from pc) and am no longer searching again. they are more beneficial machines & run amazingly properly. I really propose them. so some distance I actually have not encountered some thing on the Mac that i ought to no longer do. yet on the computer, there are a number of of issues i can not do or take wayyyy too lengthy. i understand what anybody else is declaring and that i admit i'm no longer a huge gamer, so i can not in my view contact upon that. i don't think of that is any reason to purchase a pc with piece-of-crap Vista besides the undeniable fact that. You quite WILL be apologetic about that. Leopard rocks.
