$43,000 household income is not the middle between poverty and wealth, it is still pretty poor and that is an average based on income in a zip code area, and as for the "hobo" on the street, ask him, he probably served in vietnam

the ONLY people who have sacrificed ANYTHING in or for this war are the troops and their families and friends. that is it. the rest of us go about our lives and never even think about those people.

it's pathetic, it's a disgrace, and we should all be ashamed at acting like the war has gone on too long when these people are the only ones who have been sacrificing.

The rich have given a much larger portion of thier paychecks, but the poor need the money more, so pay less taxes.
The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of the servicemen and women came from the middle class. They didn't come from either of the two extremes you mention.

I think that you can't compare the sacrifices of the rich or the poor to the sacrifices that our servicemen and women have made.

They continue to want to fight to defend our country. That should be the trump card.

The top 1% pays for over 34% of the United States tax money.

83.88% of the tax money is payed for by the top 25% of the country. They pay for the military.

And it really depends on how you define "poor" to see how much they contribute. Manic schizophrenic hobos on the street don't make any contribution at all, they drain resources from the country.

Anyone who votes and pays their taxes is sacrificing for the war. Anyone who takes the effort to educate themselves on current events is helping the effort. Anyone who is praying for our troops and hoping for success in Iraq is contributing.

Anyone who is trying to insult our military is hurting our effort. Cities and universities that attempt to ban military recruiting are hurting our effort. People who hope we lose in Iraq so that President Bush looks bad is hurting our effort.

The person above me did an excellent job countering the John Kerry botched joke about how only the poor and uneducated go to the military. While the military is a good chance for the poor to receive money and education, people from all economic and education levels join for various other reasons. It is a good environment for young people to gain discipline, self-respect, appreciation from the country, see new things, and just plain support our country.

For the rich they have made the surpreme sacrafice to carry around all the profits that they are making from it. The poor are the ones paying for it by lack of service from the programs that have been cut and the veterans have also been cut in services also.
