When someone borrows a car without permission it is car theft. If you give your friend 15 minutes to go to the corner store and be right back, then, he doesn't show up for 3 hours.........THAT is car theft, because you said how long that person COULD use your car, and the person kept it longer than you gave permission to use it. A friend DOES not borrow your car without permission, a thief does. You are being taken advantage of, in a huge way. Do you pay for your car's insurance, gas, and all that? Then, realize that your friend is using all that, plus taking the chance of actually being in a dreadful accident in YOUR car! If it happened only once, and for what your friend felt was an emergency, and he/she brought it back full of gas, in the same condition, and apolgised, that is one thing. If friend DIDN't..........turn friend in for car theft. It's a felony. My son allowed a lady to use his car to run down to the store to buy milk, etc.........for 30 minutes. SHE let another man take the car! Then, he was drunk, ran a light, totalled a car full of teenage children of two lawyers, and hit the corner of the bank building right there! It had to be proven that my son was not driving the car, for him not to be prosecuted for this! The fellow had opened the car door and run a way from the scene of the accident, as well! My son didn't know who this person even WAS. My son was lucky.......witnesses said that the man had a dark complection, curly black hair, and was black.
My son is not black, so that is the ONLY reason he was not sent to prison!
