Seal's striking facial scars come from a childhood struggle with the auto-immune disease lupus.
(Lupus (pronounced: loo-pus) is a disease that involves the immune system; nearly 90% of those diagnosed with the disease are female. Normally, a person's immune system works by producing immunity cells and antibodies, special substances that fight germs and infections. But when a person has lupus, his or her immune system goes into overdrive and can't tell the difference between some of the body's normal, healthy cells and germs that can cause infection. So the immune system responds by making autoantibodies that attack the body's normal cells.

The scars were caused by a disease called Lupus which Seal suffered from when he was a child. The particular strain from which Seal suffers causes blistering especially around the facial area, which when ruptured cause deep scarring.

Seal has always claimed that he got these from falling off his motorbike. However there is a tribal ritual that involves a child having his face cut and ash being put into the wound. The result of which looks incredibly similar to Seals scars.

I do not know for sure...
but i remember over hearing a conversation way back when and one of the people said that they were tribal scars.
I've heard this since too...
But i'm not 100% sure so :s

I don't know for sure but I always assumed it was from acne.

i dont believe they are tribal scars, i think it was due to acne
