Why won't my Ipod hold the amount of songs it says it can hold?

I only have like 30 songs on my ipod, and 7 pictures. It's an Ipod nano and says it can hold up to 200 songs, but once I reach the limit of about 40 songs, it says there is not enough space to import all of them. I know it isn't my computer space, it has something to do with Itunes. Why? Please help!

delete the pictures and see if it helps i have a 4gig it sounds like you have a two gig. you might have to delete itunes and reload it.
