Would'nt touch it bro. The apex seal requires a whole teardown of the engine. If you have the time and money to do it, go ahead. I personally would'nt pay more than $5000 for it. Make him an offer for less, if he does'nt take it, let him find another sucker.

i have an 87 n/a and a 94(needs a rebuild)--white exhaust and the smell of antifreeze is a bad sign, this means you probably melted the o rings and is letting coolant from the coolant channels into the combustion chamber, head gasket sealer may remedy this until you have cash and a builder to fix it. so dont over heat that thing -thats about the quickest way to kill that motor, also change the anti freeze once a year, if its old it can start too eat at the aluminum housings. also it injects oil into the combustion chamber to lubricate the apex seals so the oil level should drop noticeably every 2 gas fills-if it doesnt you need a new oil injector or your going to wear the apex seals and the walls of the side housings prematurely, if it starts to run rough or a lumpy idle see if changing the O2 sensor helps--if ya want more power for under a 1000 -go buy an open air intake and a high flow cat and a bigger radiator to keep it cool and in one peice -

If it is an older rx7, don't buy it. wankle rotory engines are expensive to repair, even the special spark plugs it requires are expensive. I would buy a good honda civic. much much more dependable and cheap to miantain.

i own a repair shop and those are neat little cars to restore and to have something to mess with, that wouldn't be too bad of a deal on it,when they are running they run really good,it would make you a good project car,and it wouldn't break you up to repair it either,if you get a good repair manual on it you can do most of the repairs your self, and the parts aren't bad at all,i think you,d enjoy working on this one,its a good one to learn on,good luck with it ,i hope this help,s.
