I can't seem to find the right base for my skin, I am quite pale, have dry areas & unfortunatly suffer from spots, everything I use is either too light & doesn't cover them or it's too dark, anyone know what brands are best? I'm on a budget but lookin on ebay for some bargains, thanks.

I have pale skin and i used no 7 intelligent colour foundation. Which is good because its subtle and just evens out skin tone. Its expensive but a little bit goes a long way. I never been prone to spots so don't know how it pans out on that front. I have dry skin and it makes it look more velvety and smooth aswell

Many companies now make colour adapt foundations which match your skintone regardless - you usually just buy light, medium or dark although some makes do several shades. Clinique do one which I love.

I too have greasy/dry combination skin and am prone to spots. a few tips that can help:

use a good exfoliator on your face to get rid of flaky and dry skin areas. Clinique and Clarins do good ones. don't use one made for spotty or oily skin as this won't help. Afterwards your skin should look and feel smooth and silky.

Then use an oil-free moisturiser - Biore do a mattifying one which helps stop shine come through. Many other brands make similar mattifying products. Ask for samples at beauty counters until you find one you like.

Always put foundation on before concealer; otherwise you'll rub the concealer off when applying the foundation.

Try a few colours on your jawline in department stores and then go outside in the natural light to check the true colour. Many foundations are too orangey/ peachy. Yellow tones tend to be more flattering.

Unfortunately, I have to spend a bit more to get the colours to match my skin. You might be lucky with cheaper brands. Maybelline might be OK?

Try going to your nearest The Body Shop and ask one of the sales assisant for help on choosing the right colour on foundation and it works wonders for me. They do all sort of foundation and can get a base for and powder ones as well. They arent too expensive they are around £10 a bit more or a bit less.

Dont shop for make up on ebay ! it isnt worth gettin makeup on ebay!!!

other brands you could try:
Maybelline
Rimmel
Revlon
Clinque
Elizabeth Arden
Christian Dior

Try puritycosmetics.co.uk. It is made from natural ingredients so won't irritate your skin. It is a powder foundation and covers really well if you add more. The colours are really natural looking and you can easily blend more than one to get your perfect shade.

I have combination skin and am very pale like you and I really like Clinique Perfect Balance. It's a bit pricey but you can get it a lot cheaper on ebay.
