The brain function is still a big mystery. It is believed that having a lower then normal amount of the chemical serotonin may have an part to play. Many of the antidepressant try to increase (or re balance) the level of serotonin. There can be side effects.

This problem may be genetically caused. It is good to get out and talk to people. For some reason this helps.

Depending on how long you've been feeling this way, you should consult a doctor. Depression can be very debilitating if it doesn't pass. But beforehand, get out and get some exercise. That can really help. This time of year can bring on seasonal depression. A good brisk walk or jog can do wonders for you.
See some friends that make you laugh. Laughter is really good medicine. It sounds trite, but is so true. If you can laugh, especially at yourself, then you will be surprised at how quickly you will chase the blues away.

However, if none of these tactics work...get to the doctor!!!

you have to work really hard to get motivated and find something to do that will take your mind off it. join a gym, go running, see a film etc.
think about whether there is a reason underlying - depression is not only caused by a major tragedy - maybe you are feeling unfulfilled in life, maybe your job is not great, may you miss your family, etc. etc.
hope u feel better soon - big hug!

there is always a reason... boredom could be the problem... finding something to do and not dwelling on your thoughts is always a good idea... talking to someone, daily exercise, reading, playing games... all can help, you may need to seek a doctor's advice if this countines... i am depressed all the time, it is possible to just get use to it, but not healthy...so i may not be the best to give advice heh... good luck to you, hope u feel better soon

Talk to a doctor or a therapist so they can help you figure out WHY you're feeling depressed, thus start to help you to not feel depressed anymore :)

see a doc and talk to him /her. i've suffered for years due to a lack of serotonin and take tablets for it. after a while i began to improve. i don't think it's ever cured but you do begin to see the patterns of your depression and thus learnt more to accept it and deal with it. good luck
