I'm working on a craft project and I have a roll of brown paper (very similar to the paper bag material), I'm wonder if I cut it down to 8.5x11 if it will successfully absorb the ink or toner. I have an inkjet printer and a laser printer, just don't want to screw them up :)

yes you can print on brown paper (ie.. paper bag material) i would caution you to use the inkjet printer only though... the laser jet gets sooooo hot, that the paper might actually burn.... plus if it does jam up, the inkjet is a whole lot easier to unjam.... good luck with your project

I think you might be a bit out of date. Yes, the US used to brown-bag all the shopping some years ago, and you can still see this in old films, but this was when the cheapest material for bags was brown paper made from wood-pulp, almost a by-product of the extensive logging that provided the timber to build most of the American infrastructure. Nowadays the US is short of home-grown timber, and also wood-pulp is more expensive because it is now used for other things besides paper, such as chip-board, insulation-board, fibre-board etc. So, recycled materials are the choice for brown paper now, to keep costs down, but, believe it or not, recycled materials are dearer than wood-pulp used to be. The cheapest material by far, as in other economies, is plastic, derived from petro-chemicals, which is why the US, like us, only rarely supplies brown bags nowadays . Hope this helps.

If it's no thicker than card stock and you cut the edges very smooth it should work OK. About the worst that could happen is a paper jam which is easy to take care of. Run a "test" sheet through first to see how the absorption is.

many printers can print on different type of paper. If you have a option to select the paper type check if you can select brown paper. If you can then it means that ur printer is designed to print on brown paper also. If not .. refer to the manual .. if u dont find any info abt printing on the brown paper. I suggest you dont try to do that ..

I don't think this will work. The brown paper bag material is too hard. If it were me, I would not do it.
