go to:
control panel/Performance and Maintanence/System/Hardware
Then click "device manager"
On the device manager list find "DVD/CD ROM drives" open the sub menu and look for anything with a yellow triangle over it. If you find one, double click on the icon and another window should appear, click on the "roll back driver icon" or if that does not work click on update driver, if that still does not work, delete the driver, (by pushing the delete key whilst highliting the problem driver) then restart your pc. Your pc will reinstall the driver and everything should work fine.

It probably doesn't have power. Did you play around inside the box recently? If not, you'll probably need a replacement. That's minor surgery.
Before you do anything else, get a paper clip, straighten it and poke it i the tiny hole in front of the dvd drive. Push straight and hard. That will force the door open so you can remove any disk in there. 'Course if it's empty, don't bother. :)

Power the system off, remove power cord, open the case & check your connections. If it wont open using the button on the drive, it sounds like no power is getting to the drive. If you have an unused connector coming from the power supply, swap it with the current one. If it still does not work after this, your drive may be bad.

is the power plugged in to the back of the DVD drive? That what it seems like to me. OR its dead, Drives usually just die, but there could always be more to the story. I've seen bad memory stop hault the DVD drives, weird, but I don't think that's the issue in your case, tho.

Open the machine up, check it's connected properly, and the jumper setting is in the correct place.
