It still runs. has 4 very good tires and I just need to get rid of it. I am thinking about posting $300 bucks on it and selling it. Do I just sign over the title to the new buyer or what?

I would think that if it runs good unless looks really bad would be worth at least 500 so start aking 700 and let the person talk you down 200 if he wants but do not come out and say I'll take 500. If he says will you take less say not sure and make him work to get down any. Yes in most places there is a spot on the back of the title to sign. Make out 2 bill of sales. One for you and one for him. Any paper. I __________ sell one 1981 chevy to ______ vin# ___________ for the price of _____ to __________ in as is condition. Both of you sign and date both copies. This way if something happens to the car you can say it was not mine after this date.

Take it to a notary, and have a receipt signed. (I sold a car once and it was used in a robbery but the other guy never transferred the title, cost about $800.00 for a layer to help me!!! (Notary cost about ten bucks)

Yes you can but you'd need a witness, Much easier to take it to a title transferring place and you know it's done legit.

Make sure you fill out a "release of intrest" for the DMV.
That way if the new owner gets in an accident they don't come looking for you. (last registered owner)

ADDED: It should be attatched to the "pink slip" ownership certificate.

yes. But are you wanting to sell it or give it away? If you sell it then you must claim a bill of sale also.
