I'm an American now living in the UK. I've been here almost 3 and a half years. I've seen life from both sides. Being an American, I'm well versed on gun crime. I grew up in Texas and lived over three years in Wyoming. Two of the most gun-loving States. Using weapons of any kind is cowardly. That's the way I was raised. The infusion of guns to the UK is mainly down to the influx of organised crime syndicates from other countries. Then a lot of teenagers decided that guns are cool (which they aren't) and thought they needed them to be "one of the gang". I've felt this way for a long time, we don't need more laws, we need to toughen up the existing laws and, most importantly, educate the kids better. That's been the downfall of the US, poor education. The UK is heading in that direction.

No. The world has got 'smaller' and the money to be made larger. the gap between the haves and the have not has actually increased despite the have not having access to greater resources. This is in part because 'wealth' has been 'created' through artifice. Many of the most 'wealthy' do not have '2 half pennies to rub together'. Using leverage and derivative products to create the illusion. It really is the financial equivalent of the emperors new clothes. If they actually had to pay for their assets they couldn't, they use a process of conveyor belt cash flow.
Moving the money around rapidly and creaming a little off the top as it goes, basically it is a massive gamble in a financial casino.
This seemingly endless gravy train creates a desperate jealousy and desire to get on at any cost. Increasing levels of violence follow and then increasing levels of particular types of violence. Guns are simply the next level. We have a long way to go before the gun crime reaches anything like a serious situation. Yes it is terrible now, but it will only get worse. We have surrendered any attempt to control our borders against the criminal element in a mad rush to make money for those who bank role the political elite.
If the Tories could be branded as a selfish culture under Maggie, then New Labour should be branded as 'Casino Culture'
Unfortunately it is our children's and grand-children's' futures these reprehensible people are gambling with.
We can only hope that somewhere in the political spectrum someone with real integrity and genuine concern and compassion for the people emerges.

The problem of gun-crime in UK came about because we have all been asleep. For many decades now, young black males have been seen as under achievers in their education. Nothing has been done, as far as I can see, to address this and related problems. Black youth feel disenfranchised and powerless. This then has resulted in their joining gangs where they can aquire 'respect' from their peers and hopefully from society.
Gangs are not new. Read Wm. Shakespear's "Romeo and Juliet". Also see the movie version of the musicial "Westside Story" which is based upon the Romeo and Juliet story.
The government's plan to make it an arrestable offence to carry or own a gun [unlicensed] by anyone aged 17 or above, is not going to solve gun-crime. One black girl I heard briefly on the radio a couple of days ago, said she believed the gun-crime issue is now out of control and beyond the politicians and police - nothing they do will stop the spread of the gun-culture now seen as endemic amongst black youth in UK.
In the black community at large, girls do as well as their white counterparts in education and are equal to the best in some areas. Black males on the other hand lag behind seriously in their education and are much more likely to 'skip' school than their white counterparts.
Young black males in UK need to be told the truth about themselves and their capabilities. They can achieve but they must work hard both at school and in the jobs where they are employed.
I worked in the IT business for a number of years in vast computer rooms dotted around the London area. More than half the technical staff in these computer rooms are 'black'. Black people have a natural understanding of technicalities and maths. You cannot do Jazz, Rap, etc without understanding mathematics.

No it's a cultural thing as these youths have nothing to aspire to.Except being a "gangster".Owning a gun is status to them and the richest people in their circles are the drug dealers that they work for. They earn relatively good money quickly and the lifestyle of fast cash, fast women, fast cars and glamour (in their circle) is too appealing. If one gang "disses" another then respect has to be upheld. So they start shooting each other.
The politicians will jump on the band wagon to prove that they know whats going on and start blaming each other. Then they will say that people with guns should go to prison longer and that they will put more police on the street.
Bo&&ocks.
Society has more problems than a few black kids shooting each other.I don't have the answer but i do know "we" are not to blame.

We are not all to blame.
But a lot of it is down to whoever started this immigration problem about 50 years ago. We now have several generations of these 'people' living in our country - and we reap the whirlwind that was started all those years ago.
Just look at the 'people' who carry the guns and shoot one another.

The hanging abolitionist lobby are the true culprits, they are the cause of the increase in gun use and the rapid rise in the murder rate in this country.
With hanging in fashion again these murderous scum wouldn't know what hit them.We are all partly to blame for sitting back and doing nothing. Bring back hanging!!!!!
